I am running Windows 10 Pro on a brand new T470 laptop. Lenovo Update offers an "Intel 8265 Wireless LAN Driver - 10 " update, but it simply will not install after repeated attempts. The update downloads and says that it needs to restart to complete the install, but after restarting and running Lenovo Update again, the same driver update shows up once again as "Critical update." Does anyone know how to actually get this critical update to install?

Same problem on my T470. My old driver is 18.104.22.168. The new driver is 22.214.171.124. After installing the new driver I do the reboot and when rechecking it in Lenovo System Update it states that the update failed and a new scan requests that the driver be installed again; Device Manager shows this as true because the old 126.96.36.199 driver is still there. I tried updating with both the Lenovo Advantage and Lenovo System Update applications with the same results. Something is obviously wrong with the update and Lenovo needs to look into it.

Not sure where Lenovo got that driver, because the latest Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Driver on Intel's site is still 188.8.131.52.....perhaps it is OEM specific..
Have you tried downloading the 20.30.0 installer manually that is available from Lenovo using the like below?
Intel Wireless LAN Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad 25, T470 (Types: 20HD, 20HE), T470s (Types: 20HF, 20HG)

The README file for that download says:
Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit Refer to marketing materials to find out what computer models support which Operating Systems. Versions 20.30.0 (Package) - 184.108.40.206 (Driver) Support device Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265"
This would appear, then, to be the one that the System Update utility is unable to install. I will try it, and let you all know if it works.

The README file for the download says:

This is the update that System Update is refusing to properly install. I downloaded it and it gave me the option to repair of modify the installation, so I seclted "Repair,' and, after running it and restarting, I ran System Update again. It showed no needed critical update as before. So, the manual update did the trick.
