by accident, I notieced a bright white dot on top of the lid when the display is on. This dot looks more like a hole, but is covered by the letter "a" of the "Thinkpad" logo. It is quite obvious in a dark place.
I was wondering whether this is common to other T400s. Why is there such a hole in the lid?
sometimes, being too carefull is not a good thing. yesterday, I noticed the a crack at the left corner of palm rest. it starts at the edge where the hard disk driver is installed below, and extends to about 1 cm in length.
I have no idea what caused this crack. of course I treat this 8-month-old T400s very carefully, though thinkpad is famous for his toughness.....
I have reported this defect, together with photoes, to a lenovo repair center in Germany. Hopefully, this can be repaired under warranty.
a idea just pop up, to those T400s users, I think it is better to make the hard disk is firmly filled within the cabin. leave no small gap between the hard disk and palm rest. though this crack is not a big harm, it is still annoying, isn't it?
by the way, my T400s is 2815 W14

I have a new t400s which I love but it has developed a crack on the palm rest above the cover latch sliding lock.
This first apeared when the computer was about 2 weeks old. I called tech support and they said I needed accident coverage to fix it but that I might try sales if I could prove it had the crack when I received it. I didn't know for sure when the crack appeared so I tried to fix it with some epoxy lock tite that seemed to do pretty good for a couple of week but now the lock tite is coming loose and the crack is reappearing. I haven't bumped or stressed the computer and I am thinking that it mus be a an internal stress or problem with the material.
Anyone else have this? Is it worhtcontacting sales, warranty or someone else at lenovo. I am not sure about replacing it because I have spent a lot of time setting it up with dual fedora windows operating system but it is a brand new expensive laptop that shouldn't have a crack
Any suggestions

take a picture and uploaded onto flicker, and link it here. Lets have a look at the crack.
These crack can develop if you either damage it, or there is a manufacturing defect or due to the overtightened screw depending on the location of the crack.

I have a crack on my palm rest. It is above the microphone jack, and runs about an inch up beside the left trackpad button. I called tech support, and they are sending me a new palmrest for free.

(I didnt do anything to cause the crack, its not even in a high stress area. I own a t500 and they didnt even ask for a picture or anything.)

I just had a 4 week old t400s palm rest replaced last week due to a crack in lower right corner (near the ThinkPad logo). This crack ended up in the corner piece of the palm rest falling off at replacement. Hasn't even been a week and I just noticed the new one is already cracked in the same place. Very thin plastic and maybe 4mm height to wrap around the sides - I expect this is going to be a continual problem...

these cracks is an indication that the screws is either overtightened or the laptop base is distributing an uneven load, i think you should contact service to get the appropriate parts replace to make sure everything is fine.

I have that light dot as well. But it must be very dark to notice. Funny.
