Lenovo T400 - Add bluetooth?

Hey guys (and gals),

I bought a T400, and love it. I have owned many dell laptops, and the quality difference is like night and day.

I made the mistake of buying my T400 without ntegrated Bluetooth. I have been using a small Bluetooth adapter, which works fine, but it looks bad. I’d like to have everything integral.

I am very savvy when it comes to taking apart laptops, because, as previously mentioned, I had Dells and had to constantly replace their cheap parts. :-/

My question is: Can Bluetooth be added to my laptop? If so, what is the part number? Also, is there a teardown manual for my laptop?

Thanks for your help.

[ Editado ]

The HMM shows you how to remove/replace components.

Download the HMM for your T400.

Expand "ThinkPad T400 and R400"

Expand "Removing and Replacing a FRU"

Click "2040 Bluetooth Daughter Card (BDC 2.1)"

I wasn't able to find the FRU number for the Bluetooth module. It should be there.

Thanks Ortegaluis.

What about adding a camera?  Is that possible, also?

Re: Lenovo T400 - Add bluetooth?

LawProdigy,

I am really glad to hear you like your T400.  Unfortunately, the two parts in question (Bluetooth card and Integrated Camera) are not Customer Replaceable Units (or CRU's).

If you look in the HMM that Ortegaluis references....Parts List --> LCD FRU's....you will see the CRU ID column is labeled 'No'.  What this means is only a licensed Lenovo servicer can replace these parts.  Even if you could obtain the parts, any attempt at replacement by a non-licensed servicer will invalidate the terms of your warranty.

Since both parts require manipulation of the LCD (the camera more so), training is required as to not damage the one sensitive part that makes up the bulk cost of the system.

Unfortunately, your only option if you want the integrated solution is to either configure them at the time of purchase or pay a licensed servicer after-the-fact.

Hope this helps!
