Lenovo ThinkPad T520: Replacing the touchpad?

2015-06-22, 18:10 PM

Hello, I have a laptop with a broken touchpad. We tried updating the drivers, etc. but it didn't fix the touchpad. Both the touchpad and trackpoint were not functioning, but we went into BIOS and disabled the touchpad, after which the trackpoint regained functionality. We assume that the touchpad is dead and would like to know how to replace it or if that's possible. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, you can replace the touchpad electronics only. Unfortunately there is no instructions on the Hardware Maintenance Manual from Lenovo, but is pretty easy.

You will need to remove the palmrest first, follow the instructions from said manual, which you can download from here: click me! (chapter 1100)

Then you'll need to buy the touchpad, search in Ebay, Amazon and so on... This is an example from an eBay listing: http://www.ebay.ch/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T520-Touch-Pad-w-cable-920-001288-01-/361267030569?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item541d316a29

(I have no affiliation with the seller!)
