2019-09-05, 15:10 PM

Hello,

I just got Lenovo Thinkpad T490  laptop it comes with Windows 10,

The windows contains an application for the warranty, So my questions as follows

1- I am a linux user If I replaced the original Windows  with linux will I gonna lose this warranty ?

2- Is the support available for linux ? ( I use Centos distributions and may use Ubuntu as a second option)

3- Is Lenovo softwares Like Vantage available for linux ?

Knowing that I bought that model as I found it supportes Redhat & ubuntu as follows

https://support.lenovo.com/eg/en/solutions/pd031426

thanks in advance

Hello,

  1.  Exact details of Warranty terms are a business contract with slight variations between nations.  In general installation of a different OS should not be an issue, especially when the item is listed as supported by Lenovo.  For direct interpretation check with your in-country Warranty Team.
  2.  For Lenovo support, if Cent OS is listed as supported, then Lenovo Technical support or Lenovo Knowledge Base will be willing to answer questions.  Ask your in-country repair center whether or not direct support, is available, either gratis or for a fee.
  3.  A direct hardware analysis program like Lenovo Vantage is not available for Linux today.  Maybe tomorrow??  There are quite a few Linux tools available for hardware probing and so forth, as far as I know these are available ala-carte with the user needing to discover existence.  Lenovo, is this a need for a Knowledge Base Article?

Sincerely,

Usedtoberich
