Lenovo Thinkpad with "plugged in, not charging"

My Lenovo Thinkpad is not charging the battery and shows a "plugged in, not charging" message. I have a pending Bios update that won't update since the batteries are not charged.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? Is there a way to update the Bios with just power plugged in?

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad with "plugged in, not charging"

What charging threshold do you have set in either Lenovo companion or Lenovo Vantage app?  For me I have it set at 70% and 80%.  In other words my battery wont charge until it falls below 70% and it will stop at 80%.  So if its at 75% for example it will show "plugged in, not charging"

The battery charge threshold is off. Both batteries are at 5%.

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad with "plugged in, not charging"

Have you tried uninstalling Lenovo companion/Vantage and reinstalling?

Also see the below post.  Sounds exactly like your situation.

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad with "plugged in, not charging"

Check the battery wear level. If not normal, perform Battery Gauge Reset in "Lenovo Vantage" app. It takes some hours but it will fix your problem! Please check the screenshot below.

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad with "plugged in, not charging"

It might be a failed battery

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad with "plugged in, not charging"

Thanks for the suggestions.

I removed the batteries and reinstalled a couple of hours later and now they are charging.

Batteries show they are good in Lenovo Vantage. Not sure what the cause was.

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad with "plugged in, not charging"

 Hi,

I have the same problem on my Thinkpad x260. The battery is stuck at 96% with a message "plugged in, not charging". I'm pretty sure i haven't had this issue before. I don't have any thresholds turned on, so the battery always started charging even if it was at 99%. How can I fix this and should I?
