I have Zyxel ADSL WiFi modem for internet at home:
Zyxel Prestige 660HW-D1 ADSL2+ -reititin, 54Mbps WLAN, FW SPI 0/33
The problem is that Lenovo t420 and t420s do not want to be friends with this modem over WiFi. All other equipment like mobile phones, old Lenovo laptops (T60) , Dell laptops works fine with this Zyxel. But not Lenovo t420 or Lenovo t420s.
Lenovo t420 - it takes forever to connect to any sites in the internet but once it is conneced it works fine
Lenovo t420s - it connects to wifi but that all. It doesn't open any web pages.
I though it is only mine problem but friend of mine who has t420 also reported that his t420 just doesn't work with zyxel at his home.
and the last bit. Those t420 and t420s works perfectly in school, at work, in the train with train provided wifi connection.
Question - any ideas why Zyxel hate t420 and t420s models and works fine with other laptops and devices?

We both of you likely have not configured your router properly.
1st you should be using WPA2 or WPA nothing else for security.
2nd Change the channel on the ROUTER to one that is free and further from those busy and strong in your area. There are WiFi scan tools you can run to view band usage. Congestion on a channel will affect everything including the ability to connect as you say. If this is an N WiFi router you ideally want 40Mhz space notch with no are very weak users routers either side of the selected channel 11g only uses 20Mhz bandwidth.

Thank you for your suggestion. But how do you explain that any other laptops , even from Lenovo work fine with a modem all around the hous except T420 and T420s?

Different sensitivity to higher strength signals and the ability to isolate packets from your router.
You did not indicate all important information. System configuration and very important which WiFi adapter you have!!!
Scan the WiFi band and change the routers channel. All devices will automatically find it after the change so there is not down side and only up. This will also give you better range since the channel is clear "Wireless Wizard 5.2" is a good free utility to analysis the spectrium to determine what to use.
NOTE: Belking and HNT are my routers & notice how 3 router are all fighting it out on channel 6. I could move up to Channel 12 to gain a bit less conflict from SID 5 but not down.
Anyway its up to you.

My wireles card is Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205.
Thank you for your help! I tried t switch channels on the router and didn't help.
But I found solution that is less then ideal.
Go to Lenovo Power Manager and there you can ajust power settings. This is what happens when I set:
Wohooo! WiFi started to work flawlessly! But with that comes low battery life.
WiFi icon shows that connection to router established but there is exclamation sign that internet is not available and I cannot connect to interenet.
now, it is a step forward!
Now the question is how to make WiFi working in "Long Battery life" power mode. Any ieas?

Original Poster here.
Finally WiFi on my t420s gave up completelly. It is barely working on any router including zyxel. It seems it is time to apply for warranty anf to get a new WiFi card.
So, if you have similar problem then it is probably a broken laptop and not a broken router.
