Make use of the "Lenovo Recovery" partition on my hard disk for storage?

I would like to make use of the "Lenovo Recovery" partition on my hard disk for storage; it is about 10gb and now not needed. However the Win7 OS does not seem to want to allow me to delete the contents or reformat it.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can do this?

Background

I  have two drives, one for boot and apps (solid state) and the second regular HDD just for data. I took a hard disk from my old Thinkpad T520 (which died) and put it into a drive bay adaptor in a new T520 system.  All works fine.

As the second hard disk is now just there for data and the main (solid state drive) has a new Lenovo recover partition, I do not need to keep the old Lenovo recovery partition on the second drive and would like to make use of the storage capacity.

Double-click on the partition in My Computer, and you should get the option to Recover Drive Space... but before you zap the recovery partition, make sure you have a backup image of the disk, or have made or obtained a recovery disk set.

Hope this helps!

I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Hi bananaman, thanks for your suggestion. While it was exactly what I tried to do before, just getting a message that I could not access that drive, this time it worked though.

So it anyone else gets this promlem the answer is.... before trying to format the drive, click your heels three times, wait one week and reboot several times and it will probably work : )

Re: Make use of the "Lenovo Recovery" partition on my hard disk for storage?

BTW - I tried calling Lenovo support and spoke to "Grant" who utterly refused to even attempt to help. He said that as what I am doing (taking a hard disk from my previous thinkpad and installing it into my new thinkpad) is not part of the original configuration, I am not entitled to any support for that question.

I told him that I bought the new thinkpad with the express purpose of doing this and asked at the time of purchase, if I had a problem getting the old hard disc working in the new system, would I be able to get help with it, and was told "yes, no problem". He said I'd have to talk to the sales person who made that promise. Which is stupid as the Lenovo sales dept is a call center and I have way to talk to the same person and no idea who it was anyway.

I said I was not happy with his answer and asked to speak to his supervisor / manager and he utterly refused to put me though despite asking him several times. In then end he said that if I did not have a legitimate support question he would terminate the call. And he did, he hung up on me!

To say I was pissed off with his unhelpful arrogant attitude is a serious understatement...

I wish there was a way to escalate these issues, make a formal complaint about bad service from individuals in Lenovo phone support......

Re: Make use of the "Lenovo Recovery" partition on my hard disk for storage?

Hey BaadB,

Could you give us a case number? I have posted your comments in the Lenovo thread but a case number will help me track down faster your call. I agree that what you experienced is not what we are striving for and that you the customer deserve better support.

I can not guarantee any resolution but I'll keep you updated if there is any change.

Best Regards,

Hiro

Re: Make use of the "Lenovo Recovery" partition on my hard disk for storage?

Thanks for the follow-up Hiro, clearly there are people at Lenovo that care... !!! : )

Regarding the case number, "Grant" the support person I spoke to said that he could not create a case number because the question I had was not a valid support question. He further stated that because he could not raise a case number he could not put me through to a manager... Then hung up on me...

BTW, the people including those from Lenovo on this forum all seem to be very helpful, whoever it is that signs themselves as "Ty" has also been a star...

It's just phone support that seem to be out of control...
