I purchased a ThinkPad T400s four years ago and have never been dissapointed until recently.
My harddrive died so I went to Best Buy and purchased a 2.5" HD. Now I find out that only 1.8" HD's are compatible! Is this true?
If so, where can I buy a 1.8" HD? The only Lenovo offers costs $600+ and that is way above my budget! I figure I might as well buy a new laptop with that kind of money.. Please advise!

Amazon seems to list a few. Search on 1.8" hard drive
I don't personally have any experience with these, and can't verify that they are compatible. Your machine specs are here: ThinkPad Notebooks; 2005 to present (withdrawn models)
Please verify compatibility yourself.

There should be some 1.8" Samsung SSDs in 64GB & 128GB versions floating around. The drive in my T400 is a 1.8" Samsung SSD. Its a little slow for an SSD, but rock solid. Runcore also sells 1.8" drives.
