I have the ThinkPad t470p with 8gb 2400mhz RAM, and wanted to know if I can install another card that is DDR4 2666mhz (16gb).
Will it work and how it will affect the system?

If you look at the manual
It does say you can replace or add a memory module (RAM). From the graphic, it shows that you have 2 slots.
The short story, putting 2666Mhz RAM with a 2400Mhz RAM, the higher frequency RAM will perform at 2400Mhz but it would work.
The long story, depending on your processor (Intel 7th Gen), it can support up to 2400Mhz RAM.
So, if you put in a 2666Mhz, it would only work at 2400Mhz.
RAM performance also depends on the lowest performing RAM.
i.e. if you have a DDR4 2666Mhz and a DDR4 2400Mhz connected, it would be running at 2400Mhz.
RAM performance also depends on the bus speed of your system motherboard.
So, adding a 8GB DDR4 2666Mhz does not really matter other than increasing the amount of RAM available. But if you are going to change laptop in future, you can consider it.
Based on where I am, the difference in price for a 8GB 2400Mhz and 2666Mhz is less than 10%.
Forgot to add
Under normal circumstances, the RAM should work. Lenovo has a parts list of all the tested compatible equipment (You should be able to find it under Lenovo Support and entering or detecting your serial number)
If the RAM you intend to buy is not listed, Lenovo would probably tell you it should work but they cannot gurantee it will.
Hope this helps
