Recommended power adapter/charger for Lenovo Thinkpad T470

2019-01-18, 7:18 AM

Hello everyone,

Trying to purchase an extra charger for the Lenovo Thinkpad T470 (which was bought in the US) and would love to know which one I can order locally, from Lenovo India.

These are the chargers are available and I can either buy an USB type C charger or the slimport charger, right?

I would buy the USB-C, thinking if or when I replace the laptop, the USB-C charger is more likely to work as a spare.  As far as wattage, the 45W will be lighter, but 65W may charge some devices faster and is more likely to be compatible with any replacement.  (I am not suggesting that you are going to replace the laptop soon, but things happen and situations change.)

As always, thank you for your response, Rich. :smileyvery-happy:

I think you recommend to get this one:

https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/chargers/Lenovo-65W-AC-Adapter/p/888015000

Yes, would love to get the above 65W charger if it would work with the T470 without any issues. Not that you don't know already but here's a pic of the charger ports.

As you can see from the product link, it doesn't exactly specify that the charger would work with the T470.

And using the model numbers of Lenovo products to find something or check compatibility is worse than finding a needle from a haystack. :smileyfrustrated:

And if I'm right, the 65W charger would also work with the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, right?

Thanks again, Rich! :smileyhappy:

Also, I have this charger for the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.

Can this be used with the Thinkpad T470 without any issues?

Thanks again, Rich. :smileyhappy:

The T470 only works with the proprietary connector attached to the Lenovo power supply. You cannot charge the T470 via USB C unfortunately. I've connected a battery pack to the T470 only to find the laptop being drained and the battery pack being charged.

Perhaps there's a BIOS setting to change that, but no one from Lenovo is talking.... :(

There are no BIOS settings I know of but Lenovo sells this laptop with slim tip charger and usb-c chargers plus the below review also mentions you can charge with USB-C.

The user guide says same thing.
