I'm replacing the HDD on my T420, hopefully with one of identical capacity, but the capacity of mine is 460GB, and that's not one of the choices on all the various lists I've seen. The forum consensus also seems to be that it has only 1 port, so it can't be a combo of a 320GB drive and a 160GB drive. Can anybody tell me why the numbers don't work out?

It's probably (certainly?) a 500GB drive. The space adverttised by drive manufacturers considers a GB to be 1 billion bytes. A GB is really 1024 times 1024 times 1024. If you take 500 billion and divide it by a REAL gigabyte, you get to about 465 and then some space is used up by formatting, etc.
