Replacing Trackpoint Cap why do the replacements not have the black plastic piece? T420

So I feel like my trackpoint has begun to wear down on my T420 and I went to replace it today with the similar cap from the Trackpoint Cap Collection (73P2698) that I ordered with my machine. When I removed my cap I was suprised to see that there was a piece of black plastic attached to the underside of the cap. None of the caps in the collection have this plastic piece, and I seem to be unable to remove it from the cap. Without the black plastic piece, the caps don't seem to fit correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

just take that black plastic out of the old cap and refit it back, then put in your new trackpoint. That plastic stick that you saw not suppose to come out like that, but you can just put it back.

I'll try to take it out with tweezers. It is really wedged into the cap. Does the stick have a part number? If I accidentally break it will I be able to call have one sent to me under warranty?

no part number. You should able to get a replacement keyboard if your fix doesn't work.
