SATA SSD for T470?

Hi All,

I'd like to know if anybody has successfully used any retail 500GB 2.5" SATA SSDs in the t470? My system shipped with a 500GB 7200RPM drive, so I just want to swap it out with a SATA SSD and not backorder the NVMe cable adapter etc.

I see from the parts list only 2 that are listed compatible, but they are 3x more expensive than they should be:

Samsung MZ-7LN512A

Sandisk SD8TB8U-512G-1001   (x400)

I'm looking at these, which are all affordable:

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

Kingston A400 or UV500 480GB

Intel 545s 512GBWD Blue 500GB.

If anybody has any of these models (or others I haven't thought of) running reliably in their T470 I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!

Re: SATA SSD for T470?

Any 2.5" wide, 7mm high SSD will work just fine in your T470, and will install with no modifications.

The Samsung 860 EVO is one of the fastest SATA SSD's out there, and with a 5-year warranty it is always a good choice.

Cheers,

Re: SATA SSD for T470?

Thanks JD. Do the EVO have a good track record of compatibility with the T470? My fear is having random blue screens or performance issues due unknown quirks in Lenovo's BIOS etc.

Re: SATA SSD for T470?

Thanks. I'm looking at WD Blue SSD as well, as they bought Sandisk and it's the successor of the X400, which is one of the official OEM options. Haven't tried it yet though.

Re: SATA SSD for T470?

I also like the Crucial MX series and if the cost is high the BX is an option (but I think the MX is worth the extra).
