Question

What software do I need for this? I have a 7417-TPU T400, running XP Pro 32 bit.

Answer

With regards to the SM Bus Controller you can find the chipset drivers here for your computer/OS:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014952

Download, run to extract and then install.

If you are not very familiar with Thinkpads ,  download and install System update first:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=DS013489

This tool will give you the option to download and install all the drivers/lenovo software for your computer/OS with a few clicks. You select and deselect what you want and don't want and click to continue. Then you don't need to download and install each file manually.

I have a T500 with the same issue but the above information did not fix the problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

g50-80; the same issue (after "upgrading" BIOS) - SM Bus controller driver not found. What helped was instaling chipset drivers (there where from Intel, but found on lenovo's site).
