Hello vijaysaradhi
I'm using an original XP setup CD. The problem is that this is a T400 laptop and I can't remove any hardware without destroying the pc.

There may be a device driver conflict with your pc while windows is getting installed, you may also want to check out the memory and the HDD ,i am not sure enough but you could try to test both of them once
for memory diagnostics download memtest

Hello Miner,
I've changed the version of the install cd and it worked. Thanks for the help from both of you.

Thanks a whole bunch Miner. I was having the same problem until I used my slipstreamed SP3 cd.
I can't afford to lose any more hair. Reading your message was a godsend.
