Screen goes blank and loud buzzing

2010-09-30, 22:09 PM

Several times now, my screen has suddenly gone black and instantly my t400 makes a loud, buzzing sound. The first time this happened was while I was playing Starcraft. I believe the other two occurences happened while watching videos.

I don't know if this is related to the video cards or if it's overheating, but I'd appreciate any ideas! I have updated my bios recently and yet the problem persists.

Thanks!

buzzing sound? that could be the inverter... do you have a LED or CCFL backlight version of the LCD?

Sorry I'm only just now replying. I didn't realize anyone had replied. Anyway, I have an LED display. If my sound is muted, I do not hear the buzzing noise. Thanks for any help!

I presume you're playing SC2 instead of SC1? (SC1 system load is like, idling on modern computers.)

Check to if your ATI drivers are up to date, along with everything else (i.e.: Run ThinkVantage System Update).

(I also made the assumption you have the discrete ATI GPU.)
