T400 - Fingerprint Software in Windows 7 no longer working

Question

After upgrading the T400 to Windows 7, the fingerprint reader is not working despite installing the driver. Error "Cannot Communicate with sensor".

Answer

Run ThinkVantage System Update

 

  1. Click Start
  2. Type on search bar "Programs and Features"
  3. Look for "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software"
  4. Uninstall the driver.
  5. Reboot
  6. Download latest version of Fingerprint software
  7. Install, reboot
  8. Test by enrolling fingerprint.
  9. If you are getting error "Cannot communicate with sensor". Continue the following step.
  10. Click Start
  11. Type "devmgmt.msc" on the seach bar.
  12. Click on the drop down, double click on the device, select Power Management.
  13. Untick the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
  14. Press OK
  15. Test enroll.
