T400 Intel wireless -excellent connection- drops/connects/ drops... horrible

I cannot successfully work via the wireless; it works like a rollercoaster, and the connection is excellent.  I have 2 other Acers 4 years old, using intel wireless chips, and they are connected until I disconnect.  The T400 wireless is failing, so now what?  The ThinkVantage diagnostics on this specific device run all passing. Very, very irritating.

I had this same problem with my T400.  The funny thing was that it only presented itself when connecting to the wireless network at work.  My home network always connected perfectly.  WPA security was used on both networks, however my home network uses AES encryption, while the work wirless was using TKIP.


The work router was changed recenly and now runs on AES encryption, and everything seems to be fine now.  There have also been quite a few updates for the Realtek WLAN mini PCI express adapter installed in my machine since I last tried to connect wirelessly to the work network.  I have also uninstalled the ThinkVantage Access Connections Application since then, and used the Windows Network and Sharing Centre to set up my network connections.  I'm not sure which of these has solved the problem, but I hope this helps.

I have just re-installed Access Connections to see if I can rule that one out.  Everything works fine with it now, however it is an updated version to one I was using.  Make sure you have the latest updates for your machine from both windows Update and ThinkVantage System Update.

+1 on Access Connections.  Or maybe -1 is more descriptive.


  It worked well on my T61 and my T400 when running Vista.  With Win 7 64 bit installed, AC was a total disaster.  Completely unstable.  After uninstalling it and just using Windows wifi management, things are much better.


I miss some of the AC features, but it's totally unusable in its current form on this T400 (2764-CTO with Intel 5100).


@the OP:  uninstall AC and see if things improve.
