I have a new T400 and recently found out it will not erase data from a CD-RW disk. I have tried three different programs (including Windows XP feature) and all fail. Everything I've found on the internet seems to indicate the hardware needs a firmware update. I ran the CDROM firmware update utility on the Lenovo support site and it indicated my firmware is up to date (level = HX12).
I was able to take the same CD-RW disk (which is full) to another (much older) computer and erase all the data on the disk using the procedure outlined here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306641. Using the other computer, I was also able to erase the disk using the other two programs I have installed on my T400. This seems to indicate there's nothing wrong with the CD media. I have no other issues with the CDROM -- it reads all CDs fine.
I think this is a problem with the hardware and until it's fixed I can only use a CD-RW once.
What can I do to have this problem resolved?
