T410 3G internet enabled, will it work overseas as well?

[ Edited ]

Hi all,

great forum! congrats!

I live in NJ and am expected to be overseas for around 3 months in 2012.

My question is that if I buy a new T410 with 3G wireless WWAN internet enabled, will it also work when I use an overseas service provider's 3G SIM card?

I ask because on Lenovo's website as I customize the specs, I choose:

1.  Intel Centrino Advanced-N  + Wimax 6250

2.  Integrated Mobile Broadband - (Sierra Wireless MC8355 - Gobi 3000 TM)

I get the next screen which says: SIM Card - USA which to me seems to indicate that the SIM card slot will only accept/recognize US-based SIM cards/service providers.

Pls. help me out so that I can be sure before placing my order....

thanks a million

That will work with a lot of "overseas" 3G services, but there are some that it wont work with because some 3G ISPs simply do not allow BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) connections to their service.

That has nothing to do with the technology on the Gobi 3000 card, it is a connection policy matter.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks Bill,

I am expected to travel to 2 countries: Kuwait and UAE and so will definitely check if the service providers over there permit BYOD...I hope they do but have heard that there are govt.-owned telecom monopolies out there and so will seek information from them.

thanks.....

cheers mate,
