My machine is making these beeps at boot up, nothing on the screen, just four long beeps, then one long, two short - and continues with the one long, two short...

Any idea how to sort this out?

It suggests the system board is faulty?

this could be suggesting a faulty ram, try to take the ram off and reseat them and see what happens. One of the ram is under the keyboard and another one is under the laptop.
