Question

The T410 / X201, the built in microphone couples with the speakers and generates annoying high pitched noise or audio feedback when microphone is unmuted.

Answer

Issue is caused by the microphone settings being too sensitive then picking up the audio which is coming from the speakers thus causing high pitch or audio feedback.

 

Do ensure that the Audio drivers are installed before proceeding with the steps provided below.

 

Disabling Microphone Boost

 

Windows XP

 

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Sound and Audio Devices
  4. Click Audio Tab
  5. In Sound recording, click Volume
  6. In recording, click Options then click Advance Controls
  7.  An "Advance" tab will appear below the volume bar, Click Advance
  8. Untick Microphone Boost then click Close
  9. Then in Sounds and Audio Devices Properties click OK.

Windows 7

 

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Hardware and Sound
  4. Click Sound
  5. Click Recording tab
  6. Highlight the Internal Microphone
  7. Click Properties
  8. Click Listen tab
  9. Uncheck Listen to this device
  10. Click OK
  11. Test see if High pitch or feedback still occurs

If issue still occur after unchecking the "Listen to this Device". You can try reducing the microphone boost in the Levels tab. Screenshot below
