T410 and T430 hdd swap compatibility

Hi all,

simple question: Can I use my T410 standard hdd into a T430 and viceversa?

My T410  looks dead (no more power on, even after I attempted any suggestion to recover the failure, cmos and bios reset included). I've powered it off a few months ago normally after migrating its contents to a couple of T430 and T530 and now there is no way to power on it again.

I've found on Ebay a good second hand T430 but w/o the hdd. So could I use my dead T410 hdd into the T430?

Thk

Re: T410 and T430 hdd swap compatibility

I believe T410 used drives that are 9.5mm thick, while T430 machines are limited to 7mm thick.  It is possible that the original T410 drive was replaced by a 7mm one, but that would not be the norm.

Re: T410 and T430 hdd swap compatibility

Thanks very much. In this case I'll try to find a second hand T410 or bring again to life my old one (mobo has gone?)

Re: T410 and T430 hdd swap compatibility

T430 will definietly handle every SATAII HDD/SSD, so if only isn't your T410 HDD broken it should work without any problems. It's even possible that the OS will boot without reinstall, however might be missing some drivers for different T430 hardware. Only limitation might be the drive thickness, which should not exceed 7mm. So I suggest checking it first.

What I will also suggest is considering buying a new SSD drive. Not only is it very cheap these days (less then $50), but also will really speed up your computer.

Re: T410 and T430 hdd swap compatibility

Tks for suggestion. An ssd card will be the next step. For now I just would reuse the dead T410's hdd into another Thinkpad of mines (T22, T23, T42, T61, T410, T430, T530). I'm used to deeply customize my Linux systems and I know that I've a lot of chances to boot it on a similar hw w/o reinstalling all the stuff, just having some minor noises.

May be I could put the hdd into an USB case and, changing the T430 bios, booting from there :-), but it's not very handy.

The fastest solution for now looks to be a good second hand T410 (or T420?).
