T410 - backlight turns off after plugging in the AC when battery is below 10% (Workaround)

Question

The laptop's LCD backlight turns off after plugging in the AC when the btattery is below 10%

Answer

This is a workaround if you prefer not to send your laptop to the service center.

  • Do not let your system's main battery drain below 10%.
  • Put system in Standby using Fn+F4 key combination (power button will pulse and half moon LED will be lit on LCD cover).  Then resume the system using Fn key.

  • Cycle power to the LCD by the following method (assuming no external monitor is attached):
  • Win7 --> - Fn+F7 to bring up display manager

              - Left arrow one time and then Enter key (sets 'Projector only' mode)
              - Fn+F7 to bring up display manger
              - Right arrow one time and then Enter key (sets 'Computer only' mode)

  • XP/Vista --> Assuming Fn+F7 key combination for Presentation Director has been setup to toggle between LCD and external display:

              - Fn+F7 once to switch to external display.
              - Fn+F7 again to switch to both LCD and external display
              - Fn+F7 again to switch to LCD only (optional)

  •  How to setup Fn+F7 to toggle between LCD and external display:

              - Fn+F7 to bring up Presentation Director
              - Click "Fn+F7 Settings"
              - Select "Switch display output from the Notebook LCD to external monitor to both (and then repeat)"
              - Click "OK"
