T410 does not shut down anymore

Hi everybody,

I have a T410 with Win7 (x64) at work and the following problem: It does not shutdown anymore. More precise: Windows shuts down, than the Screen turns black, but the fan is still working...so the notebook is still turned on. To start it again, I first have to push the power button for a few seconds (so it really shuts down), than I can start it.

I used the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools to update everything, cleaned the Registry...still the same problem. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tim.

@None,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Try removing one of the RAM if you are running dual channel RAM.

Re: T410 does not shut down anymore

Does it suspend or hibernate properly?

No. It does not. Same problem when hibernating...except the fact that it is not possible to wake "him" up again. Only chance: Hard reset...

Re: T410 does not shut down anymore

A T510 I know suffers the same symptoms. Rebooting works fine, but everything else hangs at a black screen with the machine partially running. Restoring to factory didn't help, nor did updating the BIOS, nor did updating the Intel AMT firmware.

Re: T410 does not shut down anymore

What do you mean by "from scratch"? Just reinstalling the OS?...Not yet, but that might be the last thing I would try.

@ColonelONeill: Did you have the problems with that T510? Any possible solutions?

Re: T410 does not shut down anymore

ok...here a few further steps I tried:

BIOS Update

Deactivate I-EEEE 1394

Start in Save Mode and try to to turn it off

Boot Knoppix and try to turn it off

Nothing worked. Lenovo is now going to send me a Recovery DVD...I`ll install that and if the problem is still not solved -> has to be some hardware issue.

Thanks everybody for the good will!

Re: T410 does not shut down anymore

Ok...for the record: Problem solved!

A Lenovo technican changed the mainboard (in 20minutes!) and now everything is working just fine. But: I cant tell what kind of malefunction the keyboard had...

The only thing that really surprised me was that he didnt use any new thermal paste when reinstalling the cpu? He said: "there is enough paste left"...true?
