T410 motherboard replacement

Hello everyone,

My Thinkpad T410 is not working and I think that the graphics card is broken. I was told that I have to replace the motherboard, because the graphics card is "inside" the motherboard for notebooks (is this correct? Do I have to change the entire motherboard?)

My Thinkpad T410 model is 2537-4N1. Which motherboard model do I have to buy?

Thanks!

Re: T410 motherboard replacement

Hi Juan,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

Yeah, in maximum laptops has Graphics chip soldered on Motherboard whether it is Discrete or Integrated.

For list of compatible Systemboard with your system please use System service parts - ThinkPad T410, T410i.

Or else provide me the System's Serial through private message to let you know the exact details it was shipped with.

I hope the above information helped you.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,
Prabhansh

Re: T410 motherboard replacement

2537 model machines almost all have discreet graphics, and if you are not using AMT or TPM, any discreet board should work

Re: T410 motherboard replacement

Well, thanks for providing the details the system was shipped with 63Y1483 and it also has support for TPM and AMT. If you are using them you can choose any integrated Systemboards from the OEM list.

Or else use the mentioned P/N for a replacement.

Re: T410 motherboard replacement

Thanks to both for the quick reply!

I'm going to buy a motherboard from amazon.com . Do you think that these 2 options work well? (one is IBM and the other one is Lenovo. I know that Lenovo bought IBM, so maybe the IBM one is too old):

Both the Systemboard looks compatible with T410 and I don't think IBM will be too old beacuse generally the systemboards you'll get for older ThinkPads will be refurbished one.

So you can use either one of them.

Re: T410 motherboard replacement

Thanks Prab!

Last question: would you buy a better motherboard? I mean, I have to buy a new one, would it be better to buy a newer motherboard (if it's possible)? If it's possible, which one?

Hi Juan,

It all depends upon what's the requirement you want from your system. If you are looking for games or video editing you can look for Discrete Motherboards but you have to upgrade the system's Fan aswell which will increase you cost a bit more.

If you are task is simple you can choose the Integrated Motherboards which will be fine for day to day tasks.

I hope it helped you, for further queries post it here.

Cheers,

Prabhansh

Re: T410 motherboard replacement

I would prefer not to buy a new fan.

I mean, maybe there's a newer model and the requirements are the same but it's better. Does something like that happens? What would you do if you were me?

Even I'll dump the idea of replacing Motherboard for T410 and look for an alternate system because Systemboards will cost you more so its better to add few extra bucks and purhcase a new system.
