Hello !
I'm using a T410(2537-9UG ; BIOS 1.37; ECP:1.14) with Optimus in a Mindock Plus 3 and a external Display, witch is with a displayport cable connected. When the default setting in the BIOS (Config->Display->Nvidia Optimus) is selected, I got no bootscreen on the ext. Display. This is bad, because I'm using a power-on password at the machine startup. The ext. Display shows a screen not before the W7 logon screen is loaded.
When I select the discrete Grafik in the BIOS I can select other Boot Display Devices like Displayports 1 or 2 from the dockingstation. Then I get the bootscreen. But this is very circular, because when I want to use the machine mobile I've to change these settings first, to be able to use Optimus.
When I select the integrated Grafikchip in the BIOS I get only a bootscreen and a picture on the ext. Display, when I connect the Displayportcable directly to the T410.
Does anybody have a idea to get a Bootscreen with Optimus ??
Greetings
Jürgen

Hi JameZ,
but this can't be the solution !
If I want to use the "poweron Password" I've to select the discrete Gaphik in the BIOS, and when I want to work mobile and use the advantages of "Optimus", I've to change the BIOS settings again ?????
This is not really a practicable solution I think...
I'm sorry, but I've expected more from your engineers !

Jurgen,
The only known workaround I am aware of is to set the BIOS Display setting to Discrete. If you do, you should see the boot messages across DisplayPort.
And FYI, this is not fixed in the T420 series.

@ThorsHammer
Thanks for your answer, but it's hard to believe for me, that this can be the only technical solution. As I said, it's not practicable to change the BIOS settings every time you want to use the dock or want to get the advantages from Optimus when you want mobile working. If I knew this before I bought a machine without "Optimus".
If you use a machine only with IGP, you'll get a signal on a ext. display while booting the machine. I can't understand why this should be not possible with Optimus, where the signals ever goes over the IGP. I think, this should be patched with a BIOS update.
And it's totally amazing that this is not fixed in the 420 series. There are a lot of business companies where the security guidelines dictate a "power-on-password" on the machines. It can't be the solution to change the BIOS settings everytime you want to use the dockingstation !!!

Don't shoot the messenger. ![]()
Trust me, there are quite a few miffed people in my company, too.

Sorry, but after the answer from JameZ, I was a bit upset. No offence !
I can't understand, why Lenovo ignore this problem and don't work on a solution. Maybe there are not enough Optimus machines sold and there are not enough users using a dock..... or it's a outbound technics and it's not worth to put more work in it.

Thank you again for your fast answer JameZ. If I understand the flowchart in your link right, then this switching has been selected to get the possibility to use 4 displays. The price is, not to see the bootscreen when you use Optimus. If you use IGP, then you can use the displayport at the machine to see the bootscreen.
I'm a bit frustrated, because if I knew this before, I would have bought another T410, for example with the Intel graphic only - and it would have been cheaper too.
The condition of BIOS - switching to see the bootscreen is really annoying for me.
