New T410s out of the box will freeze within 10 minutes of booting into the Windows 7. It does not appear to freeze when running on Battery. All Lenovo update and Microsoft updates have been applied.

So it seems I am not the only one with this problem then! My T410s freezes on average every two to three hours. If it is running on battery or not doesn't seem to make a difference. I have installed all new windows and lenovo updates (including a bios update, which by the way solved an annoying problem of letters being scrambled when typing at very high speed). Interestingly, a friend of mine got a T410s at about the same time as I did, and it suffers from the same problems.
So what seems to be going on? It seems unlikely to be a heat issue, as the system has actually frozen a couple of times within seconds of coming back from hibernation. I am afraid if I send my T410s for repair it will come back in the same state. It seems difficult to pinpoint the cause of these errors.
Another problem I have with this computer (which is probably better to discuss in another thread) is a rather loud high pitch noise when running on battery. From what I can tell it stems from the cpu power management (disabling cpu power management removes the noise, but at the cost of half the battery life). As I have had the chance to compare two T410s's side by side I know that this high pitch noise is more audible in some computers than others. Another interesting observation when comparing the two T410s's is the difference in display calibration, where my friends T410s had a very strong green tint compared to mine. From what I can tell from the viewing angles the panel seems to be of the same type.
I can't help myself but to mention yet another problem with the two T410s's I have seen. It does unfortunately not sit 100% flat on the table. Within days of use the lower left corner will be hoovering I'd say about 1mm-1.5mm above the table. It might have something to do with the slightly unusual placement of the battery and thermal expansion/contraction.
If the two first problems I mentioned could somehow be fixed I'd be happy. Everything else about this computer seems to be excellent.

Welcome! Yes, this issue is well known. Search this forum for "CPU Whine" and you'll find plenty of discussion around it.

Yup ... I am seeing the same freeze behaviour on my T410S with swichable graphics. I am not sure if it is because it is running hot, but I suspect that to be the main source of the error.
It runs especially hot when sitting in my dock, driving 2 24" screens through the displayports of the dock.
But I have also seen the freezes after it has just been sitting idle for a few hours on AC power and just using the built in display. (Not in the dock). It was warm then, but not AS hot as it has been at earlier occasions.

Just thought I'd post an update:
I sent my T410s for repair and got it back a few days ago. They couldn't identify the error but they had replaced the motherboard anyway.
It worked fine for a whole day and a half. But then (sigh) the same thing started to happen again. Random freezes, forcing a hard shutdown. So I guess I will have to send it back for repair again. I'm really regretting purchasing this laptop now.
It is a T410s with integrated graphics only, by the way.

I'm having the same issues, random freezes. Most of the time the main issue is the machine goes to sleep and will not come back to life no matter what I do, only way to get it back is to force a shutdown by holding down the power button and then turning it back on from scratch. Also it has shutdown issues, sometimes it will not completely turn off. Screen goes dark and it looks like it is off, but the wireless light remains on right under the screen, and it will stay like that until the battery runs completely dead.
I also sometimes will "shut down" and put it into my carry bag, and then when I take it back out, realize it is actually still "on" and it is HOT as hell from the left side where the exhaust port is.

We just launched approx 180 T410's with Windows 7 Enterprise and are experiencing this "freeze" issue on roughly 25% of them. All are the same model with identical specs. Removing the Intel Management Engine Components software seems to solve the issue but is an unacceptable workaround since we bought the units for vPro capability. Any help anyone has to offer would be appreciated.

I have the same issue with my W510, but disable CPU deeper sleep seems to fix the problem. I guess the battery will laster a bit shorter, but seems like that is minimal.

I'm getting real tired of this T410s! It randomly shuts down and the only way to get it to start again is unplug it and remove the battery. Then plug it in and restart. Can't restart with the battery installed. It also seems to run longer between shutdowns without the battery installed.
Anyone else seeing anything similar?

Is there anything usefull logged in Windows Event log?
