I bought a genuine Lenovo 70++ battery for my T420 in July of 2016. It had worked well for 1.5 years; until after a 9 hour car trip with the laptop off the battery failed.
According to the Lenovo Power Manager, the cells still have 60.61 Wh left of 93.9 Wh design capacity. Even though the cells still have the capacity, the laptop won't charge the battery nor will it draw power from it. It leads me to think that this is an separate issue from the cells aging.
I know the Lenovo Warranty is 90 days, but was wondering since my battery failed in a nonstandard way if there would be any additional steps I can take.

If the battery has failed, then it will be a case of replacing it. Some batteries can last a lot longer than others, but it very much depends on the cell degredation / physical condition / manufacturing of each unit.
