Re: T420 thinkpad light Power button

Hi Decesaro,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Is the machine logging into windows? If so request you to run the LSC test i.e. Lenovo solution center. Launch LSC, once you are in the Lenovo diagnostic page at the left side of the LSC home page you will see an option called checkup clikc on the option > hardware scan > Run scan.

Here is the link to download the LSC in case if you do have the one.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd022501

Once you finish the test it will show is there any hardware issue or software issue with the machine.

Also, please let me know whether the machine is getting heated?

Please write back, whether the above steps helped you.

Thank you, have a good day.

Regards,

Naveen.v

Re: T420 thinkpad light Power button

Hi Decesaro,

Oh I am really sorry for misunderstanding, however as I understand the laptop is completely dead and it’s not powering on but here we won’t able to troubleshoot your machine since it looks like a hardware issue. Hence I would request you visit the nearest service centre or the contact the customer support for further assistance.

Anyhow, here are some troubleshooting steps to confirm the hardware issue.

  1. Try swapping the good known battery, adaptor and check whether the laptop switches on?
  2. Before switching on the machine try doing power flee i.e. Hold the power button for 15 seconds and release. By doing this, the static power will get released on the motherboard. Sometimes because of the static power on the motherboard also causes power on issue.

If none of the steps does not result in switching on the machine, then as I suggested above please contact the service centre.

Please find the below given link to find out the nearest service centre according to your location.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.

Please write back, whether the above suggestion helped you.

Thank you, have a good day.

Regards,

Naveen.v
