Re: T420s - Latest Optimus Drivers - IE9 Instability

@tripplec,

Sorry as I was away on leave. I've received your message and am communicating with NINE on this.

As a temporary solution do use other browsers which is not crashing whenever Flash is needed.

Re: T420s - Latest Optimus Drivers - IE9 Instability

Hi guys,

Its pretty simple fix as the problem isn't with you guys its just with the build of the Nvidia graphics driver of that package

Use the later Nvidia driver that is on their site in the optimus package or the one you bundle for the T430 and the problem goes away.

Re: T420s - Latest Optimus Drivers - IE9 Instability

@DangerMouse,

The package for T430 is for the cards listed below.

NVIDIA NVS 5200M
NVIDIA NVS 5400M
NVIDIA Quadro K1000M
NVIDIA Quadro K2000M
Intel HD Graphics
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Intel HD Graphics 4000

The Nvidia card on the T420 for mine is NVS 4200M. Not sure if its compatible. Has anyone tried DangerMouse's suggestion?

Re: T420s - Latest Optimus Drivers - IE9 Instability

Hey ExJamJus

Maybe you are right, that the Quadro graphics packages aren't compatible.

I know the last available Quadro package that lists being compatible is this one :

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/quadro-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-296.88-whql-driver-uk.html

296.88 - which was released on June 13th

I note the latest Verde driver : 304.48 is compatible with the T420s chipsets and the T430s chipsets :

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-304.48-beta-driver-uk.html

Driver 304.48 although this driver is apparently not Optimus compatible.

So I don't really know - whether the drivers are cross compatible or not - anyway this is just my rough idea.

Re: T420s - Latest Optimus Drivers - IE9 Instability

A quick fire way to find out would be to extract the (T430s) optimus package and then just manually install the nvidia part of the package, if it installs, we know the Nvidia part is compatible.

Re: T420s - Latest Optimus Drivers - IE9 Instability

Erm ... I don't think I want to mess with that for now since this T420 is a workstation for me ...

Some users who are willing to spend some time on this can try it out though. However I would recommend using another browser whenever they are browsing through flash websites while the team look into this matter.

Are the problems you are seeing with IE9 or Flash?

Re: T420s - Latest Optimus Drivers - IE9 Instability

IE 9 actually crashes, closes down to recover and reloads. I happened a lot. I tried 64 bit as well but the results were the same. Flash causes the green band issue in IE9 with the standard Nvidia drivers.

Re: T420s - Latest Optimus Drivers - IE9 Instability

Thors :

It is anything that uses hardware rendering extensively and calls the nvidia driver into play

Silverlight, Flash, etc

It is a known fault with that build of the nvidia driver and nvidia rectified the problem in later releases.

All the Lenovo team have to do is create a new Optimus driver for the T420s - they've created one for the new T430s so they could just update ours inline with that.

Got it.  I'm sure Lenovo will get around to it but as you know, video package releases are usually 6-8 months apart.
