Hi,
I installed new Intel 520 SSD into my T420s (type 4171-6SG, BIOS version 1.34) and it works great with one exception - ATA password is not accepted after restart. Both user and master passwords were configured for the drive but none is accepted after restart.
There is no issue with password when laptop is powered on or resumed from hibernation.
Thank you for help
René

Just a thought. Normally, SSDs are installed in AHCI mode, not ATA. You may have to go back to your ATA HDD, and delete the ATA PW. Then when SSD is installed in AHCI mode, recreate the PW. Or, just forget about the ATA PW and create it in AHCI mode.

@richk - Yes, power-on password and it is the same one as for hdd. As I wrote, everything works correctly when laptop is powered on. Issue appears only after restart.
@CorkyG - Password was created in AHCI mode.

i have the same problem with a T530 and Intel 520. You've got a solution yet?
Thank you for help

Hi Patrick,
Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution yet. It could be either BIOS or SSD firmware issue so we'll need help of Lenovo or Intel.
I'll try to ask the same question on Intel forum and we'll see. Hopefully we'll get solution soon as it's quite annoying.

I have the same problem with T520 - latest bios - and Intel SSD 520/240G.
I haven't found solution yet.

Thinkpad W520, one of the earliest models from last year, BIOS up to date.
Just replaced my Intel X-25M SSD with a 512GB 520 series because it has proper encryption if you use the ATA password.
Exactly the same issue. I've tried toggling "require password at restart", but with no luck.
If you restart from the BIOS (by changing settings for instance) this doens't seem to happen, though I haven't tried a second time.

There seems to have been a similar issue:
Though in my case, the problem is consistent. So it never works.

Same problem here, 4170-CTO T420s with a 120gb Intel 520 + FDE
Works swimmingly, besides no soft-restarts.
This issue is totally irritating, and ruining an otherwise perfect experience.
