T430 Hard Drive

I want to replace my laptop hard drive to a 2 TB or 1 TB, I went down to the local market and couldn't find a suitable one, tehre was just the half tera byte hard disk.

My laptop model is T430 2344-56G

I am looking for a 2 or 1TB hard drive (SATA), what is this model hard drive compatible specs, should it be a 5mm, 7.5 mm or what ? any recommendations ?

Please note that it's the primary hard drive, not the tray one.

We have checked with the model number and your system will support 1 TB, 5400rpm, 9.5mm high SATA 3.0Gb/s HDD.

To upgrade the drive I strongly suggest you to visit nearby authorized Lenovo service center for further assistance.

Re: T430 Hard Drive

Order a Samsung Evo 840 1TB online.

You don't need to go to a service center.  Read the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your T430 to see how to swap the drive.  It should take about 1 minute total.

Re: T430 Hard Drive

You can get a Hitachi 1.5TB drive @ 9.5mm.

HGST Travelstar 5K1500 1.5TB 2.5-Inch Mobile 5400 RPM 9.5mm

And you can get a the 2TB 2.5" 9.5mm Samsung M9T in an enclosure, which many have bought and disassembled to get the 2TB drive in their laptops. They are only selling these drive (as far I know), to OEM manufacturers of such enclosures and not a bare drive.

Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive

But, there is of course a caveat to this option, but as soon as you open the enclosure and remove the hard drive, you have essentially voided the warranty of the product, so if you are going to go down this route, make sure you have all the tools you need for the upgrade ready, handle the drives with extra care and make sure to work on a static free surface.

Re: T430 Hard Drive

Hi, to ask the similiar question,

my model is 2345 which is also T430. Is it ok for me puchasing HGST Travelstar 2.5 inch 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 32 MB Cache one? or can we get only up to 5400 RPM?

Like this one below:

And I want to know where to acutally check this kind of compatibilities like you so that I can keep bothering profession people here.

Re: T430 Hard Drive

wait.  the primary bay needs a 7mm drive.  A 9.5mm drive will only fit in the ultrabay.

Re: T430 Hard Drive

A 9.5mm drive will physically fit in the drive bay but does not align with the SATA socket.  You can jimmy it around to make it fit but run the risk of damaging the SATA socket/motherboard.  Not worth it.

Currently T420 4177-CTO, T430 2347-A54, T430 2349-L64, T430 2347-UN9, T430 2342-CTR, Ideapad K1, H520S 2561-1LU, X1 1921-26U

Re: T430 Hard Drive

Does anyone know of a fast 1T drive with a height of 7mm which will fit in this model? Preferably 7200rpm and 32G cache, to replace the 500G drive I have with those specs. Could it be that the only option would be an SSD, which would be horribly expensive?

Re: T430 Hard Drive

In the end I bought an SSD, a Crucial MX200 1TB SATA 2.5 SSD,  part number CT1000MX200SSD1. quite expensive, but well worth it, and really makes the machine fly!
