T431s trackpad and point randomly stop working

2014-05-21, 21:10 PM

Has anyone else experienced an issue where the trackpad and point of their T431s stop working? My trackpad and trackpoint cut out simultaneously and at random times. Sometimes they will stop working for a few seconds, other times I cannot get the trackpoint to work until I close and reopen the laptop. I have taken this to my university IT people and I have installed all the latest drivers but the issue still persists.

This issue has been plaguing me for months, so please any advice is helpful.

Hi T431suser,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Touchpad on ThinkPad T431s.

  1. Please check if the issue persists in Windows safe mode also.
  2. Check the sensitivity of the touchpad setting from control panel, below is the link for setting up the sensitivity.

Please click here to visit the link to setting up the touchpad sensitivity.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

This response could not be further from what I posted. I posted in the subject line a T431s, not a T540p and I am having a trackpad issue, not a charging issue.

As for the suggestions, I have tried both of them and the issue still persists.

Any other advice pertinent to the issue at hand would be much appreciated!

Hi T431suser,

Thank you for replying back!

I apologize for the above typing error, and I am sorry to hear that the issue still persists.

  • Check with uninstalling the UltraNav application from Control panel (Program and feature menu) and restart the system let Windows install the driver automatically.

After performing above step if the issue still persists then the issue might be with hardware. If the system is under warranty I strongly suggest contacting our service center to get it replaced.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar
