T440 - 2101 detection error on SSD M.2 ...

2018-01-30, 7:18 AM

Hi All

Have installed Windows 10 on ADATA SP600 120Go SSD M.22 on my T440. All was ok for month (10 month exactly).

Recently i updated the bios to the latest one : 2.44 (I don't know which version I had before :-( ).

And know the laptop reboot regulary with the error message : 2101 detection error on SSD M.2

Any suggestion are welcome.

My first Idea is to downgrade the bios but offically it is not possible. I did not find the way to do.

Thanks for your help

Christophe

I have the same issue. Thinkpad t440s, Adata sp600NS34 + 1tb HDD. It working for about 1.5 years. But then the BSOD began to appear. And the system crashed. And the message: "2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)". I thought that SSD just broked. but after googling, I understand that maybe the problem is not in it. I erased the SSD and install the system again. Error 2101 does appear. Mostly after sleep. I absolutely don't know how I can fix it.

And after changing the SSD does it works without a glitch?

Same issue on my T460s.  Lots of 2101 errors, especially coming out of hibernation, or after it sits idle for a while.  I updated BIOS, Lenovo drivers, removed the M.2 and cleaned the contacts, unchecked power management & disk sleep, wore garlic around my neck...everything I read.  I was getting that error, and some random BSOD's several times a day.

I was about to buy a new SSD M.2 and decided to take one more shot at cleaning.  This time I took a look with a loupe.  Look at this white corrosion bridging the contacts where the M.2 socket is soldered to the mobo.  Socket on the left is unused and there's a big difference.  I tried air - lots of it.  It didn't move it at all.  So its some corrosion, and its not on the contacts the M.2 touches.  I just sprayed contact cleaner on a toothbrush, and brushed it like your dentist tells you to brush.  It took several applications, but it now looks just like the un-used socket on the left.

Well, ^^that^^ was over a month ago. No 2101 errors, and no Unexpected_store_exception BSOD's. I felt like a genius.

They came back a couple weeks ago, now its several times per day. M.2 slot is still very clean. So now I saved an image and put it on a new SSD drive. This is a Samsung 256 with an NVMe interface (My T460s will go either SATA or NVMe...not true of all computers). If it's been a few months and I haven't posted back here, you might assume the new drive was the fix.
