I recently purchased a Thinkpad T440 and I need your help to fix a small issue.
As a finance person I need to use the F1, F2, ....., F12 keys on a regular basis. My issue is that I need to always use FN+F1, FN+F2, ....., FN+F12 to work, which is not the most convenient thing to do.
Is there any way to switch these two? Going in the BIOS offers me only the opportunity to switch between Ctrl and Fn.

Awesome, Your are a lifesaver. This really helped me. Initially i was disapponted with the way the key was, now with this trick its perfect. Wish this T440 had the Small LED light to light up the keyboard as they gave for the T420.

Good day and welcome to the community.
According to the T440 FRU Parts List: https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t440_fru_list_20140213.pdf
it came configured with both backlit and non-backlit keyboards.
Does your keyboard have this icon printed on it: ?
If not, then you don't have the backlit version.
Hope this helps to clarify.

Looking at page 36 of the PSREF: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ThinkPad.pdf
it does not appear that any T440 was offered with an IPS panel.
Some: 14.0" (355mm) HD (1366x768), anti-glare, LED backlight, 200 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, 350:1 contrast ratio
Some: 14.0" (355mm) HD+ (1600x900), anti-glare, LED backlight, 250 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, 400:1 contrast ratio
Some: Capacitive-type multi-touch, supports 10-finger gesture
For comparison, looking at page 46, the T450 has an IPS option explicitly listed only for the FHD (1920x080) panel.
