T440 upgrade RAM

2015-12-08, 12:07 PM

Hello there!

Let me start saying that I am quite ignorant when it's about computers, so please try to be as clear as possible :)

I have a T440 i5-4300, 4GB RAM. I'd like to upgrade my RAM because sometimes when I work on my music, the machine is quite slow.

Therefore my questions are:

- How much RAM can my computer have maximum?

- How many slots does it have? And therefore shall I install my new RAM next to my old one or completely replace my old one?

- Could you please tell me EXACTLY what RAM models are compatible with my machine? So..what should I buy?

I really really REALLY appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Tiz

Your PC takes this spec for RAM:

PC3-12800 DDR3L DRAM 1600MHz SODIMM

The "L" means "low voltage", 1.35volts.

The device has 4GB soldered on the board.  You can add 8 GB more in a single module.  Read your User Guide or Hardware Maintenance Manual for how to do it.  Search support for those docs.

That spec is an industry standard, so any of the major players will have it.  You might check out the Crucial Memory Finder to confirm that for yourself.

The maximum RAM is 8GB. There is only one slot. You need 204-pin DDR3L-12800. (The "L" means low-voltage or 1.35V) Avoid modules that say "value", like Kingston Value RAM or Corsair Value Select. Everybody has his or her favorite brands. You can always buy it from Lenovo if you want to be sure of compatibility

There is NO RAM soldered to the board. (only on T440s) The maximum RAM is 8GB. There is only one slot. You need 204-pin DDR3L-12800. Re: T440 upgrade RAM

There is a bit misunderstanding above. So, the quote from the PSREF, T440 specification:

"8GB or 12GB* max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity,
dual-channel capable*, 4GB memory soldered to systemboard on selected models, one 204-pin SO-DIMM socket
(*for the models with 4GB on-board memory)"

Examples of models:
20B6006AUS, 0+4 GB (i.e.no RAM soldered + 4 GB DIMM)
20B6008FUS, 4+0 GB (4 GB soldered, no DIMM)
20B6009MUS, 4+4 GB (4 GB soldered, 4 GB DIMM)
20B6005CUS, 0+8 GB

So, tizzopil, to answer your question provide, please laptop MTM.

Sorry. My mistake. My parts list was out of date.

Laptop has 4GB memory soldered to the systemboard:

SYSTEM BOARD FRU 00HM165 - W8P,i5-4300,UMA,4G,AMT,TPM,VPRO

So, the DIMM slot is empty, maximum RAM is 4+8 GB

" I don't know what to do with this information though haha"

"So, the DIMM slot is empty, maximum RAM is 4+8 GB"

Tiz, that all means that you can add up to 8GB RAM of the spec that was quoted above. Buy a single module, not 2x4, which often come as a kit.

Cool, really thank you for your help! Much appreciated

I can add a 8Gb module then, that's great, just to be 100% sure... what are the specs for the RAM I need? Basically what RAM 'model' should I purchase?

Sorry for bothering with this (probably) silly questions..

Thanks,

T

Dude, it's been quoted for you about half a dozen times already:

PC3-12800 DDR3L DRAM 1600MHz SODIMM

Here's one.

Mate.. You have to understand that I don't know much about computers.. so the info you are referring to has been quoted before I provided my model (which apparently was crucial), so, to me it meant it wasn't a valid suggestion anymore.. hence why I asked for the specs of the RAM a second time.

Re: T440 upgrade RAM

Hello,

i've just bought a Lenovo T440 (Intel Core i5 4300U - RAM 4GB DDR3 soldered on the board - SSD 128GB). I'd like to upgrade my RAM, i've seen in this post that my laptop supports "PC3-12800 DDR3L DRAM 1600MHz SODIMM 8GB".

I've executed the crucial system scan and turned out that my laptop also supports "DDR3 PC3-14900 - Unbuffered - DDR3-1866", is that so? In your opinion, is the performance increasing between the PC3-12800 and the PC3-14900 relevant?

Thanks
