Crucial's website lists CT2KIT102464BF160B (8GB x2) as incompatible with the T440p but it meets all the requirements listed on Lenovo's spec sheet of the T440p, it's 1.35v PC3-12800 16GB RAM. Should I just go ahead and buy it or will it simply not work?

I don't know why they don't show that on their website, the link https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/thinkpad-t440p shows the Maximum RAM correctly as 16GB, but they do not offer it under the potential upgrades.
From what I can tell, the only difference between the two is that they list the capacity of the 8 individual RAM modules on the 8GB SODIMM (1024 X 64), but not capactity of the 8 individual RAM modules that would be on the 4GB SODIMM (512 X 64)

I suppose you could contact Crucial just to be sure before ordering, but it looks right to me.
