T440P black vertical line on the screen

2017-02-11, 20:50 PM

I have been using Lenovo T and W series for years, but this is my first post, so if I am not following the etiquette correctly, please let me know.

I just bought a used lenovo T440p (i7-4900MQ with Nvidia graphics, screen 1920x1080 IPS). The operating system is Windows 8.1. On white background I see a vertical line about 5 inches from the right of the screen. This line comes and goes but it is most often there. I have tried to view youtube videos full screen to use the Nvidia adapter to see if it is the screen or the video board (the line is always there). I have also connected an external monitor to the laptop and don't see the vertical line. I am wondering if this is a driver issue, operating system issue, or the screen is faulty. The laptop is still under waranty so I wanted to see what would be the best approach to taking action.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I would just call and describe.  A vertical line means a column driver has failed.  If that is the diagnosis, the line would appear even if you just boot into the BIOS, so no drivers are loaded.

The panel has failed.  There is a contact tape across the bottom of the screen and it has started to delaminate.  Do you have warranty remaining?

Thank you very much for the quit reply.

Yes, according to the lenovo solution center, I still have waranty for another few months. The line comes and goes, but if you sit there you will see it. My only problem was how to explain to the support person that this is not there 100% of the time. Anyway, do you suggest that I just call their 1-800 number and explain?

Thanks.
