I updated the BIOS on my ThinkPad T440p to Version 2.35. Now, when I power on my laptop, it freezes on the ThinkPad logo at startup and won't boot.
I use M.2 SSD (ADATA Premier Pro SP900 128GB) as my primary boot device. Everything worked well before BIOS update.
At the first seconds after ThinkPad logo is shown, I can hit Enter and call temporary boot device dialog (otherwise laptop freezes.). Then, when I select ADATA SSD, it boots normally.
There is no rollback to earlier BIOS version possible, so can anyone give me any advice or can Lenovo fix this bug?

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!
Can you please check whether the HDD is detected in BIOS, to check the same as soon as you switch on the system keep taping F1 and you will see the BIOS page, and in the BIOS page under the boot menu you will find an HDD option and check whether the HDD is detected? Also, try to boot from safe mode.
Please let me know about the above requested details at the earliest to assist you further.
Thank you, have a good day.

thanks for quick reply!
Yes, both hard drives are detected and visible in BIOS setup. I also checked SSD's S.M.A.R.T. status and NAND storage for defects, but its all OK.
The way I made it work:
1) Loaded BIOS setup defaults.
2) Switched Boot Mode to Diagnostics
Laptop is working now (about 5 starts in a row without failure). I hope it will work...

Thank you so much for posting your solution! I had the same problem and your workaround worked for me too. Normally after the initial computer startup my computer uses Symantec Encryption Desktop (SED) before allowing me to go into Windows. After the BIOS update, if I could make it as far as SED, I would usually only have a couple seconds to type my password, because if the Windows splash screen wasn't up and running in about 5 seconds after startup, my computer would stall out. It was taking me about 10 times each startup to get the computer fully functional.
(An additional edit. While this fix has worked while undocked, it doesn't work when booting while docked.)

I am also having this issue after the latest BIOS update. I will give the workaround a shot, but this doesn't seem like a scalable solution as we have hundreds of these machines in production. Can we get an update from Lenovo if a newer BIOS that fixes this bug will be released soon?

I have same problem here, after updating BIOS, device restarted several times (restarting from Lenovo Logo). Now it friezes on Lenovo Logo. F1 doesn't work (it clears the screen and only shows the blinking cursor). System diagnostics works but everything looks fine. I can only see "Startup Interrupt Menu", F12 (temporary startup) also goes to blinking cursor.
Note: Main HDD is SAMSUNG MZ7TE256 and secondary is ST2000LM003 (Seagate 2TB).

this issue should be solved by new BIOS release. My sollution is only workaround and we can see it covers not all cases.
T440p should be called p as "Problems," starting with bad TN LCD quality / IPS LCD bleed, coil whine and other design flaws, which Lenovo still refuses to solve! I know Lenovo is Chinese brand now, but customer service is exactly the reason why we bought ThinkPad. I put to you all our hope, you can help us, thank you!
Keivan: On my T440p, "Enter" option to pause startup procedure is active only first few seconds, then it is unaccessible.

I have the Lenovo T440P. I also have the same problem after the bios update. 2.35.1..11 Mine will not boot while on the docking station. I did take off the dock and it will boot up. I can interupt startup with the F11 key while off the dock and no problems with start up are detected. I tried to do the interupt startup with the F11 key while on the dock to run the test to repair startup and cannot as it hangs up every time. I do not have dual hard drives. I also tried hitting enter to interrupt and that does not work. It goes to a black screen and hangs up. If I hit the F1 key it goes to a blank screen with a cursor bliking in the upper left corner. Please help with ideas.
