T440p: matching screen model and serial number

2017-11-20, 16:02 PM

Hi! I bought the refurbished T440p (Machine Type Model: 20AWS08M09). For my serial number at Lenovo warranty lookup site I see specification as follows:

i5-4300M(2.6GHz), 8GB RAM, 240GB Solid State Drive, 14in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, DVD Recordable, Wireless option, WWAN option, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64.

It seems strange to me that, in fact, my laptop has a screen with a resolution 1600x900, but not 1366x768!!!

Of course, I suspected that the screen could be replaced. However, outwardly it looks completely untouched and the lateral plastic frames fit very tightly to the screen (like on new laptop).

Could such a screen be installed in the factory? How can I make sure that the screen is original?

Welcome to the Community

According to MTM the screen should be HD+.
So, it's a factory part.

I will add that on the T440p, the bezel simply snaps out and back in.  I can replace a screen on one of those in less than 10 minutes and unless you opened it and looked at the tape that holds the cable to the back of the panel, you would never know it had been worked on.

I used

cat /sys/class/drm/*/edid

and output was:

auo B140RTN02.3

but...

get-edid | parse-edid

shows

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "
                     @"
        ModelName "
                    @"
        VendorName "AUO"
        # Monitor Manufactured week 0 of 2012
        # EDID version 1.4
        # Digital Display
        DisplaySize 310 170
        Gamma 2.20
        Option "DPMS" "false"
        Modeline "Mode 0" 112.60 1600 1664 1706 1954 900 903 906 960 -hsync -vsync
EndSection

So... The screen was produced in 2012 and the laptop was manufactured in 2014. This model (auo B140RTN02.3) is acceptable for this laptop, but, apparently, it is too old. For other t440p-s I can check, this ratio (screen/laptop dates) is 2013/2014 and 2014/2014. Accordingly, there is some probability that the screen was previously replaced.

Finally, in your opinion, guys, what is the best possible IPS screen model for this laptop?

There aren't HD+ IPS LCDs in the T440p MT 20AW parts list. Not listed panels but compatible by the dimensions, connector type, placement and pinout, signaling interface, power consumption etc. might have brightness control issue. Not "will' but "might", also it might depend on the OS. Another choice is FHD panel.

How can I separate screens in parts list whether certain screen is intended for AW or for AN?

https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t440p_frubom_20160614.pdf

From this PDF I can conclude, that this is part list both for AW and AN, and AUO B140RTN02.3 is listed, so B140RTN02.3 is fully compartible with my laptop as well as for all ANs and AWs. Am I right?

Please explain: what is the technical difference between AN and AW?

I've compared complete lists of the parts for both MT. They almost the same with three exceptions - SSD. So, in case of T440p MT doesn't matter. In particular, LCD list is the same.
