1) I guess it voids your *whole* warranty (but i'm not an expert)
2) the reason why I didn't want that "touch" was because I wanted anti-glare, not a super reflective screen. With the reports around the web so far, you've got a *much* bigger chance of getting the AUO. I'm not even sure I've seen reports of bad touch-version screens. But again, it's highly reflective
3) that's what I was thinking about as well, but ther I wasn't sure if the connectors were compatible for HD+ and FHD displays.
So if you haven't read the whole thread: I've had my first unit with this horrible LG display, I've had the whole laptop replaced, I've received another unit with the same display, despite the sales rep telling me he's done everything he could to make things right (and I didn't mind waiting for the available stock of good lcd panels). BTW, the sales rep was very professional, so I really don't think they have any control over it.
I was tempted to replace the screen myself, but then I thought - what for? Why do I want this laptop so much?
I loved the keyboard, the trackpoint, the strict looks...
BUT: the keyboard
1) it hasFn/Ctrl messed up
2) for some reason F1/F2.. buttons need to be accessed via Fn combo, so you basically have to be using Fn-Lock all the time
3) Home/End/PgUp/PgDown are all badly placed
4) PrintScreen is where the menu button should be
5) if you kick back in your chair, you basically see al the led lights under the keys, not the keys themselves. It's totally unlike the lighting on the X1.
And with all that Right-Shift is *the largest* key on the keyboard. How often do people use the right shilft.
So basically I had to swap Fn/Ctrl in the BIOS and remap all other keys using software.
BUT: the looks and construction
1) the body is all mate, but if your hands are a little sweaty or, god forbid, greasy, not like from chiken wings, but more like from wiping your forehead, it's all gonna end up well visible on the laptop.
2) the original unit was almost fine, but had a piece of cable sticking from beneath the bottom of the screen bezel (this glued bezel). The replacement was built well, but had somewhat lose hinges, not really something to brag about, but just to bring the whole picture in view.
BUT: the trackpoint
1) it's a rare, but a very convenient feat on laptops. When it has dedicated keys for left/right click. Not the case with this new lenovo trackpad - it doesn't have any physical keys now. When using the trackpoint, you have to rely on the trackpad to register clicks in the upper swath of this trackpad. But my original T440s only registered clicks when they were more towards the central portion and wouldn't register clicks towards corners (the most common scenario when using the trackpoint), the replacement unit was better at it though.
BUT: the trackpad
1) I guess it should be possible to configure it to do 2 finger scrolling without scrolling down a 1000 pages if I move fingers a bit too fast, but it should have been configured that way in the first place.
2) If you configure the trackpad to work more or less fine for you, you'll probably get a frustrating experiance using the mouse. You have to choose, either you'll be comfortable with the mouse or the trackpad (because of speed of the cursor)
BUT: heat and noise
1) my first unit was good, bt the replacement had fan running at all times, and if it was at a moderate load (google hangouts) it went hot to the point where I was worried if that was safe for it to run. Definitely not comfortable (i5-4300U).
On top of that:
Mark_Lenovo - the local mod - wouldn't answer to PMs from users in this thread. He had been doing this at first, but the he just disappeared.
So after all those thoughts, I decided that I'll probably wait for the next call from lenovo, if they're going to make things right again and bring back the fame of IBM's thinkpad series. But thus far, I've already found a replacement: Delll E7440.. It looks a bit ugly, compared to T440s, BUT: it has a proper IPS screen, you can access all it's internals by unscrewing 2 screwes (unlike the T440s). And it also has a trackpoint and dedicated trackpoint/trackpad physical right/left mouse buttons.
so the choice is up to you.
I hope some day I'd be a proud owner of a T450s or a t460s some day.

I'm skeptical that replacing the screen with an OE Lenovo part is going to void any part of a warranty, let alone the entire laptop. Replacing the screen should have no effect on any other parts; I suppose if you're really worried then you can keep the original screen and swap it back if something needs attention.
I don't know yet if the x900 screen can be replaced with a x1080 or x1080 touch screen. I have a touch screen in the mail and will try to swap it out this week.
Otherwise this laptop is great. Love the keyboard, the track pad once configured is excellent, I never hear a fan or feel any warmth unless I'm running a couple VMs and giving it a proper workout.

I have the LG screen, but it is the 1600x900 TN screen so I can't compare it to the x1080 screens yet. I will say it is awful, terrible angles, washed out. I'd forgotten how bad screens were back in the day, this is like a bad trip down memory lane.
I'm also hesitant to go back to glossy but I'm hoping it will be a fair compromise. I used the laptop yesterday outside and was impressed with how legible it was, it would be a shame to lose that.
New screen is supposed to arrive Wednesday. The other plus for the tocuh screen is you lose the thin plastic (glued on) bezel as the screen appears to be attached to a glass bezel.

"I'm not a picky person myself, but I certainly don't want something that is "horrible" and "worse than the worst TN display." Is it really that bad or are people exaggerating?"
It is not exaggeration to say that the LG display is "worse than the worst TN display".
I really do not understand how Lenovo can sell laptop with a display like that.
Really, I don't understand the logic behind that. I hate Lenovo for that.
A technician has just changed my screen 2 weeks ago, but unfortunately the screen is again an LG. I really thought receive a AUO after my "negociation" with IBM by email. But now my screen is "repaired"... it will be not so easy to change it again. So I really think to bought a AUO screen on the internet (on aliexpress for $66 + $30 for shipping) and change it myself now that I have saw how to do it.
For now, most of the time I uses my T440 as a workstation (my Dell U2711 IPS is always plugged). This is the only reason why I have not already throw my computer out the window!

The LG display is bad, especially if you have read this thread it will make you even more aware of how bad it is.

My touchscreen x1080 replacement arrived today, looks nice, only modest glare definitely less than my old Yoga which was almost like a mirror. That's the end of the good news. The unit is deeper so it doesn't fit in the non touch chassis. I was able to power it up and it looked good (whites are pretty crummy and it isn't that bright), a big improvement from the x900 screen. Unfortunately non touch laptops are not wired for touch, so you'd have to get a harness from Lenovo and fish it down to the mainboard. And there's a trim piece below the glass near the hinges that isn't included.
So back it goes, trying my luck with a screen from these guys: https://www.laptopscreen.com/ . $85 shipped. I chose the matte version.

@greystone: the B140HAN01.2 is sold at $144.99 on this website. Not a good deal!
Why do you want a B140HAN01.2 over the B140HAN01.1? I bought a B140HAN01.1 for $70, couldn't see enough difference between the two to keep looking for a .2.

I went through this dilemma.
I actually ordered a .2 and received a .1 and had to decide whether to keep it or not.
In the end I kept the .1 because .2 seem to be dificult to find.
It took me a while to get used to a matte screen and to stop inspecting every inch of it for flaws.
I love it now and having matte screen is very nice.
I still wonder what the .1 and .2 difference really is - all vendors claim they are the same and the the .1 and .2 is about which latptop maker the screen which commissioned for.
From the specs I could only see that there is a 0.2mm difference in the glass thickness.
Greystone - did you get a chance to see a .1 and .2 side by side? Are there any differences e.g. in the level of "matteness"?
