T440s - Problems with external mouse / keyboard problems

I am using a ThinkPad T440s docked UltraDock with an Micorosft Scult Ergonmic Desktop set.  Periodically both the keyboard and mouse will freeze and be unresponsive until I lift the lid on the screen at which point both start working again.

I've tried the following - uninstalled the Synaptics Drivers - issue continues to occur

Reinstalled the Synaptics Drivers - issue continues to occur

Reduced the sensitivity of the palm rejection - issue contines to occur

disable the trackpad completely - trackpoint with trackpad acting as right/left click only - issue continues to occur

I've seeen nothing indicating a problem in Event Manager.

Anyone have any suggestions on what is happening and how I might go about fixing it?

Thanks,

GE

Re: T440s - Problems with external mouse / keyboard problems

Hi Geschinger,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with Keyboard/Mouse on ThinkPad T440s.

Please check with installing the Microsoft sculpt ergonomic driver for your system and check it once.

If the issue still persists then uninstall Lenovo power manager application and check it with restarting the system.

Microsoft sculpt ergonomic

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Re: T440s - Problems with external mouse / keyboard problems

Hello Hemanth,

I do have the Mouse and Keyboard Center 2.3 64-bit  installed.  I'm not sure if that included the drivers or if they are built into Windows.  I haven't seen any separate driver update for the keybaord and mouse.  But that was/is installed as the problem continues to happen.

Thanks,

GE

Re: T440s - Problems with external mouse / keyboard problems

I updated the Ultradock firmware and uninstalling power management and thought I made progress as I made it through all day yesterday without it happening.  However this morning it has happened again.  Any other suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks,

Re: T440s - Problems with external mouse / keyboard problems

Hi Geschinger,

Please download and install ThinkVantage system update utility, and after the installations please run it so that it will check all the required updated drivers and application for your system.

After the completion of the update restart the system and check if the issue still persists.

Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

Re: T440s - Problems with external mouse / keyboard problems

Hello Hemanth,

That did not solve it but I am testing something... I'm wondering if the dock itself could have an issue although if so it doesn't make sense to me that opening the lid on laptop would get things working again.

I've gotten my hands on another dock (identical model) and so far for about half a day yesterday the issue did not happen.  I'm running it today to see if happens again.   Both my dock and the one I am testing with are on the upgraded firmware and all other variables (what is plugged into dock, etc...)  are the same.

Best Regards,

Re: T440s - Problems with external mouse / keyboard problems

Hi Geschinger,

Have you checked connecting the Microsoft sculpt ergonomic keyboard/mouse directly to the system (ThinkPad T440s).
