I would like to start by saying the headphones used to work fine previous times I had them plugged into my T440s. While not using the headphones, my T440s would default to the internal speakers as they should. When I plugged in my headphones, I could hear through my headphones (as I should). The other day, I shutdown my laptop at the end of the day (I usually just hibernate it), but when I started it up again, I lost fucntionality of the headphones. It wouldn't revert to the headphones when they were plugged in. Hoping I can get some help. Thanks.

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per your query we understood that you are facing issue with Audio port on ThinkPad T440s.
This could be issue with drivers, hence I suggest you to check with updating the Audio drivers from Lenovo support page.
Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.
Hope this helps!

Hello, since this thread is the top Google result for the headphone jack problem I wanted to add another solution in hopes it will help someone.
I was eventually able to fix this on my T440 by putting the laptop to sleep (with the phones in, not sure if this mattered) and then waking it again. This is similar to the issue with the dimming functions that sometimes stop working when you sleep (although you only have to open and close the laptop to fix that one).
Note I had rebooted several times in the course of re-installing drivers, which did not help at all. I also had no options in multichannel. Finally in desperation I tried sleeping, and then heard the 'wake" sound after logging in.
I suspect this issue was caused by some combination of sleep, docking, and headphones being plugged in.

even i have this problem, it was working fine and started happening all of a sudden.
speakers work fine, as soon as i plug in the headphones the sounds disappears.
since many days i am working around by disabling the realtek audio driver and re-enabling it. i am looking forward for a permanent solution for it.
