T440s wireless instability w/Thinkpad 2x2 11bgn card

2014-09-04, 6:01 AM

I just recieved my T440s last week and I'm loving it so far except for one frustrating flaw. My wireless connection seems to either slow down incredibly or completely stop every 15-20 minutes. However, it still displays a five bar connection and doesn't acknowledge any drop in connectivity. I've read up a bit and seen that LenovoEMC might have caused some problems but I don't seem to have that installed. Most others seemed to have the Intel wireless cards as well, but I haven't heard of any with the 2x2 11bgn card. I've also tried disabling bluetooth which seems to have reduced the problem, but I would still prefer to have full functionality on a $1500+ device. Any help would be appreciated.

What wifi card is installed into your laptop?

x220 • Gobi 2000 3g | hdd, msata ssd, wwan, wifi, gps -- unique hand-made config
ThinkPad 25 Special Anniversary Edition. #Retro. Signed by D.Hill
T470p | X1 Carbon Gen3 | Miix 2 10" | Yoga Tablet 2-1050F (Android) + BT Keyboard
ThinkPad Stack • 2.4/5 Wireless Router, HDD 1 TB, BT Speaker, Power Bank, Mobile Projector

Do it well, worse becomes itself

I have the exact same problem. Any updates on this issue?

We have tried updating the drivers. We finally resorted to hard wiring the network and disabling the wireless for now.

Hello.

Which OS are your machines running?

If Windows 8/8.1, go to Control Panel -> Device Manger -> locate your WLAN adapter in the list, right click it and select properties.

Head over to the Power Management tab, and untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

WLAN - Power Management Tab.

See if this doesn't stabilize your wireless connection.

Cheers!

For win 7, it might also help to try  control panel -> network adapters -> in the list of adapters, double click on your adapter, go to the "advanced" tab and scroll down, click on "transmit power" and set to 5. Highest.
