T450 Cannot adjust brightness

2016-08-14, 14:50 PM

Hello everyone,

I just yesterday received my T450 and in general I am really happy.

What drives me a little crazy is, that I cannot adjust Brightness. I'd be really happy, if someone could help.

The system:

T450

Windows 10 <-- cleaninstalled

All Drivers up to date (thinkvantage-thingy says so)

----------------

The Problem:

Cannot adjust brightness via FN + F5/F6

Cannot adjust brightness in the energysaving options

Switching between energysaving mode and normal mode doesnt affect brightness

Can adjust brightness with the Intel HD Graphic tool, but it looks weird.

---------------

What i tried:

-Updated BIOS

- deleted Intel drivers and loaded the newest one from lenovo homepage

- deleted pnp-monitor and reinstall

- deactive/activate pnp-monitor

This annoys me kind of hardcore. I travel 4 hours at 3 days a week. I bought this notebook to use it in this time. Adjusting brightness kind of is key in a train. So safe me and earn everlasting love!

Is this a new machine that you bought from Lenovo or was it previously used?

Which screen does your T450 have? Does the brightness control works when you're booting from a Linux live stick?

Hey,

1) I tried to identify my display. When I enter SN on lenovo homepage it says:

- Model Number 20BU. Under the akku it says 20BU-S00201.

Monitor: 14.0 HD+

Further discription:

Display is glare and supports 1920x1080. Its 14 inches.

2) I have no expiriences with linux and therefore wasnt able to test this.

As I suspected, the previous owner installed an aftermarket FHD screen as the T450 wasn't available with a glossy FHD screen. Unless you modify the EDID of the screen or replace the panel by an AUO FHD panel with FRU 04X0436, an LG FHD panel with FRU 04X5916 or by one of the HD or HD+ screens the T450 was available with, the brightness control won't work under Windows. It will however work under Linux. If the previous owner didn't inform you about this issue, I would suggest to ask him for a refund if you're not able to perform one of the above-mentioned modifications.

I agree with the previous post.  That's why I asked if it was previously used.  I agree that it is probably not an original panel

Holy !

Since I kind of like this laptop, I need to know: has this impact on the warranty which still is ~2 years?

Like will Lenovo be like: "jerk dont modify your display and cry afterwards!"?

Thank you very much for this keyinformation!

If the panel gets sick, they won't cover the non-original panel. My experience is in U.S., but I would not expect a problem if something unrelated fails, like memory, disk, motherboard, etc
