T450 not recharging via power cable

Hi! I have started having a strange problem - yesterday morning my thinkpad 450s stopped powering through the regular power cable. It is recharging fine when using my docking station. Any thoughts?!

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

 

Are You Plugged In? It sounds silly, but you need to make sure that the laptop is actually plugged in. Could be a Lose the Battery? Remove it entirely and try plugging in the laptop. If the laptop powers on properly, the problem was likely a bum battery.

 

Check the Connector

 

Also, check the ends for any broken connections, such as plugs pulling loose or spots that may have gotten chewed by a pet or caught in a vacuum cleaner. Inspect the AC brick. Is it discoloured? Are any parts warped or expanded? Give it a sniff—if it smells like burnt plastic, that's likely where the trouble lies.

Hi! Sashi, thanks for your reply. Unfortuantely, no indications at all. I tried 3 other power supplies (I have two docking stations, one for home, one for office).  The battery seems fine because it's recharging through the docking station perfectly well. It's only not recharging through the power supply! Weird! I don't smell anything or see any discoloration near the power supply.

Sounds like power cable is a likely culprit or maybe the connectors at either end.I would suggest you to contact Lenovo service center and report your findings as you may need to send the unit for service.

There is a separate fuse and power circuit for charging through the laptop's power jack vs. the dock.  It could be there is a problem  that needs service.  Is the machine under warranty?  Is yes, call support.
