I am having issues with fingerprint reader after reinstalling windows 10 on my machine (i.e. It was working fine under windows 10 when I upgraded from windows 8.1) .
Issue: FingerPrint scanner does not work
1. no fingerprint option in sign-in options in windowns 10
2. device manager identifies the hardware as synaptics FP sensor(WBF) ( PID = 0017) but shows it as not functioning properly
3. Driver error message:
"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
The requested operation was unsuccessful."
4. BIOS is enabled for fingerprint identification.
When I reinstalled windows 10 I got a list of removed software. Among them was the Fingerprint Manager Pro, which I could not install in windows 10.
I understand that Windows 10 should have the required drivers for fingerprint to function properly. However this is not my case.
Any idea how to fix this?

Is there any way I could fix this without resettin my windows? I have already upgraded to windows 10 (but missed the step that required uninstalling the fingerprint sofrware first).

My Fingerprint reader was working great on my T550 with Windows 10. Then I had to do a reset (windows update wasn't working).
Since then the fingerprint drivers will not install correctly. Whether it's code 31 error, or "No Drivers are installed for this device" or restart, I cannot get it working. There is something not letting the driver install correctly. I did try the ThinkVantage fingerprint software, but it says no device is installed.
Lenovo tech support was ZERO help and disappointing to say the least. They sent me a new keyboard (who knows why since Fingerprint sensor isn't part of it), and a bezel that did include a new fingerprint sensor (which I installed even thought it is clearly not a hardware issue).
Any help you could provide would be much appreciated, as I use the fingerprint reader for my LastPass program often!!

I am aware of this issue which happens after running Win10 reset or repair. In this case, something in the operating system gets corrupted and then fingerprint doesn't work anymore. Currently we are investigating the Win10 OS issue and how to work-around it in the fingerprint driver. If you can't wait anymore, then a clean installation of Win10 (not a reset or repair) will fix it. Sorry for this trouble.

What I know about this problem is that it's still under active investigation. So unfortunately I don't know when we will have a work-around for trial. Also, please note that it would just be a work-around for some OS problem that will still continue to exist until Microsoft solves it. I don't know what other problems the OS bug will cause, besides fingerprint. For this reason, my recommendation is clean install. Sorry for this trouble.

Fresh install of Windows (NOT a refresh/reset) definitely does not have any issue. The issue with refresh/reset, is that something in OS folder "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto" gets corrupted. Fingerprint driver does not use this folder directly, but the fingerprint subsystem (Windows Biometric Framework) of Windows 10 does. This corruption is the reason why fingerprint doesn't work. We don't know why refresh/reset causes this problem, and so far, Microsoft doesn't tell us either.
