T450S won't turn on

2016-09-17, 14:17 PM

I accidentally closed my T450S without turning it off last night and went to sleep. Today it won't turn on. When I plug in the charger the power button blinks 3 times. I have work vital to my job and my studies that I must retrieve soon. The laptop is 9 months old, but the warranty is invalid because I live overseas and I can't ship it to the US for repairs. I have files I need Monday morning or I will fail my courses, which means I also lose my job. I have some of it backed up, but the finished product was a file too large for my google drive and I just bought a new external hard drive to back up this korning.

I have tried:

1. Booting without the battery

2. The emergency reset button

3. Removing the internal and external batteries and booting

4. Draining the battery by holding the power button then booting with no battery

5. Hitting the power button 10 times then holding for a minute then booting

6. Removing the RAM, draining the power, replacing the ram, then booting with no battery

7. Unplugging and replugging the connector between the charger and the motherboard

8. Putting the whole thing back together and letting it sit on the charger for an hour in the hope that all this stuff did something and now it just needs to charge.

Everything I tried left me with the same result. 3 blinks of the power button when plugged in, and no other response to anything else.

Is there any way of repairing this giant waste of money sitting on my desk? Please help!

One more thing to try.  When it is unplugged and both batteries are disconnected, I would unplug the CMOS battery which is in the corner (upper right, as you are looking at it with the bottom cover off).  With everything disconnected, I would press the power button a few (5?) times to drain any charge held in a capacitor.  DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A BIOS PASSWORD SET AND DON'T KNOW THE PASSWORD.

I had the exact same issue but did not dismantle my machine as I believe that it would void the warranty. So they sent out a technician, and swapped the motherboard which resulted in it working again. I wonder if just clearing the CMOS battery charge would have worked as well. The thing is, why would the mother board end up in that state and could it potentially happen again?

Would anyone know?

This method also worked for me. Taking the botton panel off was a bit tricky but do-able. I discovered that I did not need to undo the screws holding the internal battery and the CMOS battery in place, there is a small power plug that you can undo - no removal necessary. After I plugged everything back in it booted up fine, I just had to set the system date and time. Thanks for the help!

As I remember, screws will not go out. Just release them and then split two halves of the body by inserting something in between. Nail can work if you do not mind

This worked for my T540p. I tried all different combinations, but I did not think to remove both the power battery and the CMOS battery. Booted right up.
